U3A (University of the Third Age) is a world-wide, self-help learning organisation for retired & semi-retired people. The aim of the U3A is to encourage and enable older people to learn new skills or to revive former ones, and to then help others to do the same. There are no qualifications required to join, nor is there any age requirement. Please go to the main U3A website to find out more. Thorpe Bay U3A celebrated its Tenth Birthday in 2018.

What do we do? At our monthly meetings we have a speaker, tea/coffee and biscuits, meet friends and chat. See the Events page for news of forthcoming speakers. After the General Meeting leaders of the interest groups are available to inform one and all of what their group can do for the members.

What do we offer? Apart from the opportunity to make new friends we have various interest groups. We do not restrict membership of the groups by ability as we feel that we are all there to learn. We may have to restrict the size of some of the groups to enable a good interchange of information (and to fit into a room!). Please see the Groups page for further information.

How much does it cost? The annual subscription is £12 this covers membership to interest groups as well.

Any other expenses? Admission for members to the monthly meetings is £1. The cost for group meetings varies from 30p for a cup of tea, up to £3 towards the hire of a hall for the larger groups.
