Tendring District

Welcome to Tendring District U3A

Introduction

Welcome to Tendring District U3A encompassing Clacton, Frinton, Walton and nearby villages on the Tendring peninsular.

Tendring may be flat, but with big skies and wonderful sunsets, it is certainly not without interest, and neither is the U3A movement! We hope you will look further at our website, and perhaps explore the websites of our related groups based in Brightlingsea and Harwich.

We have an enthusiastic and friendly membership of over 500. Our study groups, currently number 69, and new groups will be formed as interest is shown and members are forthcoming who are prepared to act as group co-ordinators.

Our activities include a monthly meeting with a speaker, Christmas party; summer party; and other social events.

The Universities of the Third Age are democratic, self funded organisations which provide all types of educational, creative and leisure activities for older people at minimal cost, by making use of the knowledge, skills and experience of their members. Each U3A is essentially a co-operative of men and women no longer in full time employment, who share common interests and a desire to learn for its own sake. No qualifications are required or awarded.

Membership

Membership is open to anyone no longer in full-time employment. There is an annual subscription, which covers the costs of running our branch, and includes an affiliation fee to the Third Age Trust, the national organisation. It entitles members to take part in any of the activity groups, to attend the monthly meetings, and to receive a quarterly local newsletter, as well as the national Third Age News from the Third Age Trust. Any social events, outings, etc. will normally incur additional costs.

Annual Subscription
While you are welcome to attend one monthly meeting as a guest, you need to become a paid-up member before you can access any groups.

The annual fee is £14.00. From now until December 31st 2019 This gives access to all the U3A's activities, although membership of certain groups may incur some further expense, for books, materials, travel costs for outings, hire of venue etc.

For Membership Enquiries please see the Contact page.
